The Origins of Skullberto

This is Skullberto, the unofficial mascot of sinistersea.com. He comes from an old Italian horror flick that fell into the public domain, Oasis of the Zombies (note: this is NOT a good zombie movie). The opening scene features two girls walking through an oasis, and the camera eventually zooms in on a skull hidden under a palm leaf (after spending a remarkably long time focusing on the "acting").

The skull caught my eye, so I decided to take a screen capture. I opened it up in Illustrator, applied a Live Trace, spent a little time cleaning it up and ended up with Skullberto.

It's a pretty roundabout way of getting a picture of a skull, but it beats killing a drifter, cutting off his head, and waiting for the flesh to decompose, right?

  1. Skullberto has an interesting story ;) I love the final version - just like you said, it goes well with the sea.

I think creating this blog was a nice idea, I've always enjoyed playing your games and getting some more info about the creator is cool.

    Looking forward to more posts!
